Wenco International Mining Systems, a subsidiary of Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM), is scheduled to unveil Hitachi’s new global vision for autonomous mining systems at the 2019 Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) convention, which takes place from April 28 to May 1 in Montreal, Canada.

Wenco offers a suite of mine productivity solutions including fleet management, asset health, proximity detection, mining business analytics and high precision machine guidance solutions. The company strives to be recognised as the industry leader for reliable solutions in mine safety, productivity, and efficiency. Headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, Wenco is a wholly-owned subsidiary of HCM.

As a major provider of equipment and data systems to the global mining marketplace, HCM has been a leader in the industry’s approach to digitisation, technological interoperability and autonomy. In conjunction with Wenco, HCM will reveal its vision and strategy for advancing open autonomy within mining.

“The guiding technological philosophy of Hitachi rests on open innovation,” says Wenco president and CEO Andrew Pyne. “As such, Hitachi and Wenco intend to champion the enablement of open autonomous systems in mining as the most cost effective and straightforward way for customers to test and deploy autonomous systems.”

HCM chief technology officer Hideshi Fukumoto will detail Hitachi’s solution linkage vision and open autonomy strategy on Monday, April 29, on CIM’s innovation stage at Montreal’s Palais de Congrès.

The Hitachi group of companies have secured diamond-level sponsorship for the CIM 2019 convention and will lead a number of activities, including a welcome speech at the event’s opening ceremony by Wenco board member David Harvey, technical presentations at various breakout sessions, presentations on the innovation stage and a concluding speech at the event’s closing function on Wednesday, May 1.
