TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Vancouver-based Monument Mining has begun commissioning the carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit of the 1 200-t/d treatment plant at its Selinsing gold project, in Malaysia.

The gravity circuit at the plant is already in pre-commercial production, Monument said.

The company bought the gold project in June 2007, and has since developed an openpit gold mine, and commissioned the gravity circuit in September last year.

So far, 4 002 oz of gold have been produced from the operation, as well as 890 oz of silver.

The first shipment of gold took place in early November, Monument said in a statement.

The company realised an average price of $1 124/oz, and is using the cash generated from gold sales to fund the ongoing construction of the CIL circuit.

The mill throughput increased from a monthly throughput of 3 534 t in September to 34 260 t in January, and the gravity circuit achieved its targeted throughput in December, Monument reported.

The CIL commissioning was to have begun before the end of 2009, but got under way on February 12, after delays in the delivery of agitators.

Together with the gravity circuit, the gold treatment plant, once in full production, will have a capacity of 40 000 oz/y.

Mining at Selinsing started in June last year, and the company has stockpiled more than 200 000 t of ore for processing.

Some 120 000 t of cyclone overflow material from the gravity circuit has also been stored for future treatment in the CIL circuit.
