Underground construction employee dies at Harmony's Mponeng mine

Gold miner Harmony Gold Mining Company reports that an underground construction employee, working on planned rail maintenance, died at its Mponeng mine near Carletonville, in Gauteng, on May 1.

The nature of the incident that led to the fatality is under investigation.

“We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased. A day of mourning will be observed at the mine in honour of our colleague who passed away,” Harmony CEO Peter Steenkamp says.
