Wheeler River

Wheeler River is an undeveloped uranium deposit located in the eastern Athabasca Basin of Saskatchewan, Canada. The project is operated by Denison Mines, which holds a majority interest, with JCU (Canada) Exploration holding a minority stake. Wheeler River comprises two main deposits: the Phoenix zone and the Gryphon zone, with Phoenix being the higher-grade deposit targeted for initial development. The project is notable for its planned use of in-situ recovery mining technology, which would extract uranium by circulating solutions through the orebody underground rather than conventional open-pit or underground mining methods. Wheeler River is situated in an area with established uranium mining infrastructure, approximately 35 kilometres north of the Key Lake uranium mill. The project is undergoing environmental assessment and regulatory review by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and other authorities. Denison Mines has conducted feasibility studies and technical work to advance Wheeler River towards production, positioning it as one of the most advanced uranium development projects in Canada. The deposit's scale and grade make it a significant asset in the global uranium supply context, particularly as nuclear energy demand evolves.
