Tunisia

Tunisia is a North African country located on the Mediterranean coast, bordered by Algeria to the west and Libya to the south-east. The capital and largest city is Tunis. With a population of about 12-million people, Tunisia has a diversified economy that includes agriculture, mining, manufacturing and tourism. The country is a significant producer of phosphates, olive oil and dates, and has a growing energy sector that includes both conventional and renewable power generation. Tunisia's currency is the Tunisian dinar. The country operates as a republic and is a member of the African Union, the Arab League and the Union for the Mediterranean. Since gaining independence from France in 1956, Tunisia has developed a relatively educated workforce and has pursued economic modernisation, though it faces challenges including unemployment and regional development disparities. The government has increasingly focused on renewable energy projects, particularly solar power, to enhance energy security and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels. Tunisia's strategic location and trade agreements with the European Union make it an important gateway for commerce between Africa and Europe.
