Seoul

Seoul is the capital and largest city of South Korea, serving as the country's political, economic and cultural centre. The city is home to more than 9.7-million people in its metropolitan area, making it one of the most populous urban centres in the world. Seoul is a major global financial hub and headquarters to numerous multinational corporations, including Samsung, Hyundai Motor Group, LG and SK Group. The city's economy is highly diversified, with strengths in technology, manufacturing, finance, services and creative industries. Seoul is a leading centre for innovation and research, particularly in electronics, telecommunications, automotive engineering and green technologies. The city plays a central role in South Korea's energy transition and decarbonisation efforts, hosting policy institutions, corporate headquarters and research facilities focused on hydrogen, battery technology and renewable energy. Seoul's infrastructure includes an extensive metro system, high-speed rail connections and Incheon International Airport, one of Asia's busiest aviation hubs. The city has been the capital of Korea since 1394, when the Joseon dynasty established it as the seat of government, and it remains the heart of the Korean Peninsula's economic and political life.
