Rohitesh Dhawan

Rohitesh Dhawan is the chief executive of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM), a position he has held since 2021. He leads the global industry association representing 28 of the world's largest mining and metals companies, as well as regional and commodity associations. Before joining ICMM, Dhawan spent more than a decade at McKinsey & Company, where he was a senior partner and co-led the firm's global mining practice. During his tenure at McKinsey, he advised mining companies, governments and investors on strategy, sustainability and operational performance across multiple continents. Dhawan has become a prominent voice in discussions around the mining sector's role in the energy transition, particularly regarding the supply of critical minerals needed for renewable energy technologies and electric vehicles. He advocates for responsible mining practices, improved environmental and social governance, and collaboration between industry, governments and civil society. His leadership at ICMM has focused on advancing the industry's contribution to sustainable development and addressing climate change. Dhawan holds degrees in engineering and business, and his background combines technical expertise with strategic and policy insight. He is a frequent speaker at international forums on mining, sustainability and the transition to a low-carbon economy.
