Randy Smallwood

Randy Smallwood is a mining executive who served as president and chief executive of Wheaton Precious Metals, one of the world's largest precious metals streaming companies. He held the CEO position from 2011 until his retirement in 2023, overseeing the company's growth and strategic direction during a transformative period for the streaming sector. Smallwood joined Wheaton in 2004 as chief financial officer before ascending to the top role. Under his leadership, Wheaton Precious Metals expanded its portfolio of streaming agreements with mining operations globally, providing upfront capital to miners in exchange for the right to purchase gold, silver and other precious metals at reduced prices. He played a key role in establishing the streaming model as a mainstream financing alternative in the mining industry. Smallwood was known for his disciplined approach to capital allocation and focus on high-quality, long-life assets. He oversaw numerous strategic transactions that diversified Wheaton's revenue base across multiple commodities and jurisdictions. His tenure saw the company navigate commodity price cycles, regulatory changes and evolving investor expectations around environmental, social and governance performance. Smallwood was succeeded as CEO by Haytham Hodaly in 2023. He remains a recognised figure in the precious metals and mining finance sectors, having helped shape the evolution of streaming as a distinct asset class.
