Pan African Resources

Pan African Resources is a mid-tier African gold producer focused on low-cost, long-life operations in South Africa. The company is headquartered in Johannesburg and maintains a primary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, with a secondary listing on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange. Its core operations include surface tailings retreatment facilities and underground mining assets, primarily located on the Witwatersrand gold fields. The company's principal operations include the Barberton Mines in Mpumalanga, the Evander Mines in Mpumalanga, and the Elikhulu tailings retreatment plant. Pan African Resources has positioned itself as a significant player in South Africa's gold sector through its strategy of acquiring and optimising mature mining assets and processing historical mine waste. The group employs several thousand people across its operations and produces in excess of 180 000 ounces of gold annually. Revenue is derived primarily from gold sales, with the company benefiting from rand-dollar exchange rate movements given that gold is priced in US dollars. Pan African Resources has pursued organic growth through brownfields expansions and the development of tailings resources, which offer lower capital intensity and shorter payback periods than greenfields projects. The company was established in the early 2000s and has grown through a combination of acquisitions and operational improvements to become a notable mid-tier producer in the South African gold industry.
