Oregon

Oregon is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Its capital is Salem, while Portland is the largest city and economic centre. The state's economy is diverse, with significant contributions from technology, manufacturing, agriculture and forestry. Oregon is known for its timber industry, which has historically been a cornerstone of the economy, alongside agriculture producing crops such as hazelnuts, berries and wine grapes. The technology sector has grown substantially, particularly in the Portland metropolitan area, which hosts semiconductor manufacturing and software development firms. Oregon's natural resources include forests, hydroelectric power and mineral deposits. The state has no sales tax but levies income and property taxes. Oregon is governed under a system with an elected governor and bicameral legislature. The state joined the Union in 1859 and has since developed into a significant West Coast economy with strong environmental policies and a focus on renewable energy development.
