Mark Learmonth

Mark Learmonth is chief executive of Caledonia Mining, a gold producer with operations in Zimbabwe. He is a British mining executive with extensive experience in the African gold sector. Learmonth joined Caledonia Mining in 2012 and was appointed to the chief executive role, leading the company's strategic direction and operational oversight. Under his leadership, Caledonia has focused on developing its flagship Blanket gold mine in Zimbabwe, one of the country's largest and longest-operating gold mines. He has navigated the company through Zimbabwe's challenging economic and regulatory environment, including currency volatility and evolving mining legislation. Learmonth has overseen significant capital investment programmes at Blanket, including shaft deepening and expansion projects aimed at extending the mine's life and increasing production. He has also managed relationships with Zimbabwean banking partners, including Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe and CBZ Bank, to support the company's financing and operational needs. Before joining Caledonia, Learmonth held senior positions in the mining and finance sectors, bringing expertise in corporate finance and project development. He has been a key figure in maintaining Caledonia's listing and investor relations, with the company traded on the London Stock Exchange's AIM market and the Toronto Stock Exchange. Learmonth's tenure has been marked by efforts to balance production growth with shareholder returns, including dividend policies and exploration initiatives such as the Bilboes gold project. He remains a prominent voice in discussions around gold mining investment in Zimbabwe and southern Africa.
