Keno Hill

Keno Hill is a silver-lead-zinc mining district located in central Yukon, Canada, approximately 350 km north of Whitehorse. The district is operated by Hecla Mining and represents one of the highest-grade silver deposits in the world, with a long history of production dating back to the early twentieth century. The property encompasses a network of underground mines, processing facilities and supporting infrastructure spread across the Keno Hill silver district. Hecla Mining acquired the asset in 2013 and invested significantly in modernising the operation, bringing it back into commercial production in 2023 after years of care and maintenance. The district has produced more than 200-million ounces of silver since mining began in 1913, making it one of Canada's most prolific silver camps. Keno Hill's ore is characterised by exceptionally high silver grades, often exceeding 500 grams a tonne, along with significant lead and zinc credits. The operation includes a 400-tonne-a-day mill and concentrator that processes ore from multiple underground mines within the district. The remote location and harsh subarctic climate present logistical challenges, requiring careful planning for year-round operations and supply chain management. Keno Hill remains a strategically important asset for Hecla Mining and contributes to Canada's position as a leading global silver producer.
