HSBC

HSBC (Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation) is a British multinational banking and financial services group headquartered in London. The bank operates in more than 60 countries and territories across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and the Americas, serving around 39 million customers worldwide. HSBC is organised into four main business segments: wealth and personal banking, commercial banking, global banking and markets, and corporate centre. The group is one of the world's largest banking and financial services organisations by total assets, which exceed $3-trillion. HSBC employs approximately 220 000 people globally. The bank is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index, with secondary listings on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange. Principal subsidiaries include HSBC Bank plc, HSBC UK Bank plc, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited and Hang Seng Bank. The bank has a significant presence in emerging markets, particularly in Asia, where it generates a substantial portion of its revenue. HSBC was founded in Hong Kong in 1865 to finance trade between Europe and Asia, and relocated its headquarters to London in 1993.
