The field operates through governmental agencies, non-governmental organisations, community-based initiatives and private-sector partnerships. Key strategies include habitat protection, anti-poaching enforcement, reforestation, wetland restoration and the promotion of sustainable land-use practices. Conservation increasingly intersects with economic development through mechanisms such as ecotourism, payment for ecosystem services and debt-for-nature swaps, which link environmental protection to financial incentives. In Africa, conservation plays a vital role in protecting iconic wildlife, supporting tourism economies and preserving critical ecosystems such as rainforests, savannahs and coastal zones.
