Chevron

Chevron is an American multinational energy corporation engaged in oil and gas exploration, production, refining, marketing and transportation. The company is headquartered in San Ramon, California, and operates in more than 180 countries across six continents. Chevron is one of the world's largest integrated energy companies and ranks among the top global oil producers. The corporation's upstream operations include exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas, while its downstream activities encompass refining, marketing and distribution of petroleum products. Chevron holds significant stakes in major liquefied natural gas projects in Australia, including the Gorgon and Wheatstone ventures in Western Australia, as well as interests in the North West Shelf project. The company also maintains substantial operations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific and the Americas. Chevron is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 index. The company employs about 45 000 people worldwide and generates annual revenue exceeding $200-billion. Chevron was formed in 1984 through the merger of Standard Oil of California and Gulf Oil, though its lineage traces back to the 1879 founding of Pacific Coast Oil Company, which later became Standard Oil of California.
