Belgium

Belgium is a Western European country bordered by the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and France, with a coastline on the North Sea. The capital is Brussels, which also serves as the de facto capital of the European Union and hosts the headquarters of Nato and numerous international institutions. Belgium has a population of about 11.5-million and operates as a federal constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system. The country is divided into three regions—Flanders, Wallonia and the Brussels-Capital Region—and has three official languages: Dutch, French and German. Belgium's economy is highly developed and diversified, with key sectors including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, automotive manufacturing, food processing, metallurgy and steel production. The port of Antwerp is one of Europe's largest and busiest, serving as a major gateway for trade and logistics. Belgium is a founding member of the European Union, the eurozone and the Benelux economic union, and uses the euro as its currency. Historically an early industrialiser, Belgium retains significant expertise in advanced manufacturing and engineering. The country's strategic location and multilingual workforce make it an attractive hub for multinational corporations and European institutions.
