ArcelorMittal South Africa

ArcelorMittal South Africa is a steel producer and the South African subsidiary of ArcelorMittal, the multinational steel and mining company headquartered in Luxembourg. The company operates integrated steel production facilities in South Africa, including blast furnaces, steel-making plants and rolling mills. Its operations include the production of long steel products such as rail, structural sections and wire rod, as well as flat steel products including hot-rolled coil and plate. ArcelorMittal South Africa serves the construction, mining, manufacturing, transport and energy sectors across southern Africa. The company is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, with ArcelorMittal holding a majority stake. Key production sites include plants at Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging in Gauteng, and the Newcastle Mill in KwaZulu-Natal. The company has faced challenges including electricity supply constraints, rising input costs and competition from steel imports. ArcelorMittal South Africa employs several thousand people and remains one of the largest steel producers on the African continent. The South African operations were established through the acquisition of Iscor's steel business in 2004, which had roots dating back to 1928 as the state-owned Iron and Steel Corporation.
