Zimplats, which is a subsidiary of South African mining firm Impala Platinum, has approved the technical aspects of its proposed Ngezi Phase II expansion project, at a projected cost of $445-million, but warned that the start date would be dependent on a number of aspects.
The proposed expansion would involve the development of a two-million tons a year underground mine, a two-million tons a year concentrator module, a 35 000-million litre dam, a nine-km overland ore conveyor and employee housing.
