 Abstract: Major South African deep-level miners want to stick to mining and avoid generating their own electricity – except when it comes to emergency power. However, emerging junior miners are taking self-generation in their stride, examples being South Africa’s Wesizwe Platinum and Australia’s Braemore Resources, which is also JSE-listed. Braemore goes so far as to accuse South African miners of being “spoilt” and points to the Australian tradition of miners generating their own electricity.
