PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Oil and gas producer Woodside has appointed former Industry and Science Minister Ian Macfarlane as an independent director.

Macfarlane served as Industry and Science Minister until September last year, and in February this year retired from Australian politics. He was recently appointed as the CEO of the Queensland Resources Council and also chairperson of the Innovative Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre, and is a member of the Toowoomba Community Advisory Committee of the University of Queensland Rural Clinical School.

Woodside chairperson Michael Chaney said on Monday Macfarlane was Australia’s longest serving Federal Resources and Energy Minister, and the coalition’s longest serving Federal Industry and Innovation Minister, with over 14 years' experience in both Cabinet and shadow Ministerial positions.

“Macfarlane is held in high regard in the Australian resources industry and brings a wealth of relevant experience to the Woodside board,” he added.
