PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Wetar copper project, in Indonesia, is expected to reach its nameplate capacity of 25 000 t/y of copper cathode by the December quarter, owner Finders Resources said on Tuesday.

The company reported that the copper cathode solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX-EW) plant had plated over 4 800 t of copper cathode, with production ramp-up reaching nameplate capacity on a number of days.

“It has been a very pleasing effort from site management now commencing to achieve nameplate production from the 25 000 t/y SX-EW plant. Investors can now look forward to more positive news in the coming weeks as production is stablised, completing the transformation of Finders to a significant and profitable copper cathode producer,” said Finders MD Barry Cahill.

The plant was commissioned in May this year.
