PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Nickel miner Western Areas has lost grid power to its Forrestania operations, in Western Australia, following a regional bush fire about 35 km from the mine site.

The company said on Wednesday that the fire was not posing a physical threat to either the operations or personnel.

On-site back-up power generation was currently being used; however, the Cosmic Boy mill operations had been shut down until mains power transmission had been restored. This was expected to occur within the next two days.

Western Areas noted that while the temporary loss of mains power would result in a short-term impact on production, the company did not expect there to be any adverse impact on meeting its existing full-year production guidance.
