Wescoal appoints acting CFO

Wescoal acting CFO Izak van der Walt

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Coal junior Wescoal has appointed Izak van der Walt as acting CFO, effective immediately, following the resignation of executive director and CFO Morne du Plessis.

“Du Plessis wished to explore other opportunities and, in order to remove any uncertainties about this important company role, it was jointly agreed that the resignation be effective immediately. A month-long handover period will ensure the continued smooth workings of the financial department and processes," Wescoal acting CEO Waheed Sulaiman said.

Van der Walt was a chartered accountant and member of the Public Accountants and Auditors Board, with 14 years’ experience in the mining resources sector.

The JSE-listed company’s board said in a statement on Thursday that it would now focus on making a permanent appointment, while meeting national transformation imperatives.

Sulaiman thanked Du Plessis for his significant contribution to improving Wescoal’s financial systems while contributing to growth.

“Our parting has been amicable following a full and lengthy consultative process and . . . we wish him every success in the future.”
