Voltex

Voltex is a leading stockist and reseller of a comprehensive range of electrical and lighting products, including brands from national and international suppliers.

The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of JSE-listed Bidvest Group, which forms part of Bidvest Electrical and has a Level 2 broad-based black economic-empowerment rating, a yearly turnover in excess of R4.8-billion and a staff complement of more than 2 100 people.

The company is divided into specialised supply and distribution business units. Its 15 supplier divisions ensure a well-rounded product range, while Voltex’s distribution network consists of 53 strategically located outlets nationwide, including an export department, which facilitates the distribution of goods throughout the African continent and the Indian Ocean islands.

Voltex has a national fleet of more than 835 vehicles and an inventory in excess of R750-million comprising more than 60 000 line items. The company is able to provide for all electrical product requirements with high levels of service. It caters for the infrastructure, commercial, and industrial sectors, as well as residential developments and energy efficiency replacement/retrofit markets.

The categories of electrical products stocked by Voltex include:

• electrical cables and wire;
• distribution/reticulation accessories and associated hardware;
• distribution boards, enclosures, polyvinyl chloride and steel conduits and accessories;
• circuit breakers, motor control gears and switches;
• reticulation management systems comprising conduit, ducting, trays, racing and strut;
• conventional and light-emitting diode (LED) commercial, industrial and residential light sources and energy efficient lighting;
• street and area light poles;
• energy efficient products such as LED and solar lights, sensors, daylight switches and time switches, as well as energy management, prepaid meters and induction appliances;
• heat pumps, inverters and inverter air conditioners;
• tools, testers and hardware;
• switches, sockets and general and industrial products;
• generators and transformers;
• safety wear and equipment;
• power quality and power management enhancement products; and
• security products, access control and general products.

All these products conform with SABS specifications where set standards are in place.

Product research and development forms a significant part of Voltex’s responsibility, in particular, the development and implementation of technologies that achieve energy efficiency and sustainable energy use.
