Valves manufacturer introduces new product, earns safety certifications

Valves manufacturer DeZurik has added an innovative new concept in air valve technology to its product portfolio.

The Apco ASU combination air valve was introduced late last year, with the single body combination valve featuring a patented air release and air/vacuum mechanism that is specifically designed to deal with media containing grit, solids and grease.

“The valve’s unique design provides varied and predictable airflow over a range of air release conditions. A large diameter air/ vacuum disc provides high-volume airflow for rapid venting during pipeline filling and allows high volumes of air to enter the pipeline during draining.

“During normal pipeline flow conditions, the dual-range air release design prevents air build up and resultant flow restrictions under changing conditions and through the full flow range,” DeZurik explains.
The company states that the ASU valve is a universal design that allows application on a range of flow conditions with effective sealing and operation from 2 psi to 150 psi as standard.

Further, the lightweight, compact design of the valve allows installation in piping systems with limited space and in vaults with low ceiling heights.

“Backed by extensive field experience on tough applications, the ASU valve has demonstrated improved performance, reduced maintenance and lower cost for overall reliability on sewage and dirty service applications,” the company says.

Meanwhile, DeZurik also in January this year announced that its four knife gate valve product lines have earned Safety Integrity Level (SIL) certification as demanded by the requirements of the IEC 61508:2010 standard.

The IEC 61508 international standard on functional safety assures that safety-related systems provide the necessary risk reduction required to achieve safety for the equipment.

DeZurik’s KGC knife gate valves, KSV severe service knife gate valves and KUL urethane knife gate valves have been certified as SIL 3 capable, while its KSV double block and bleed valves have been certified as SIL 2 capable. The SIL certification means that these valve styles are suitable for use in critical applications up to the SIL rating. The SIL rating reflects the level of risk reduction the device can provide when used as part of a safety instrumented system.

DeZurik valves are successfully applied on slurries, oil sands, process fluids, corrosive media/acids, steam, water, air and dry solids.
