Plans are afoot to increase output volumes significantly at State-owned mining company African Exploration Mining & Finance Corporation’s Vlakfontein colliery, near Ogies, in Mpumalanga. African Exploration corporate strategy and planning GM Sicelo Sikakane and Vlakfontein mine surveyor Mxolisi Obed Nkosi are seen discussing the company’s primary objective of ramping up the mine’s production from the current 1.6-million tons run-of-mine (RoM) a year to three-million tons RoM over the next three to five years. This will enable the company to supply its primary customer, State power utility Eskom, at a rate of about 2.5-million tons of coal a year – Ilan Solomons
