PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Valence Industries said on Tuesday it had started operational graphite production at its Uley project, in South Australia.

The first graphite production was part of the plant commissioning programme at Uley, and Valence was hoping to progressively ramp-up flake graphite production rates to the project’s nameplate capacity of 14 000 t/y by September.

The transport of the graphite product to the Port of Adelaide was expected to start later this month.

Earlier this year, Valence secured $75-million in debt financing to fund the planned expansion of the Uley project, from 14 000 t/y to an ultimate 64 000 t/y by 2017/18.
