PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Mineral Deposits Limited (MDL) has restarted operations at its TiZir titanium and iron ilmenite upgrading facility, in Norway, but has warned that the full extent of damages incurred during an August incident was not yet known.
MDL in August halted operations at TiZir following an operational incident, which caused damage to the surrounds of the furnace.
MDL said on Friday that repairs to the furnace surroundings have been completed on time, and at lower than expected costs; however, during the repair period it became evident that some sections of the furnace lining was also damaged during the incident.
The full extent of this damage could only be assessed once the furnace was operating.
MDL noted that the TiZir plant would reach the required temperatures within the next three to four weeks, with the company having ordered a spare lining to minimise any potential downtime associated with a change of lining.
