PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Tiger Resources has added some 23 000 t of copper to the ore reserves of its Stage 2 Kipoi project, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The miner said on Thursday that the ore reserve estimate for the Stage 2 project had increased from 666 000 t at the end of December 2013, to 689 000 t at the end of December last year.

The updated mineral reserve included mining depletion, with Tiger pointing out that the company had produced 13 557 t of copper cathode and 16 222 t of copper-in-concentrate at Kipoi, during 2014.

The mineral resource during this period reduced by 4.3% to 938 000 t of copper.

The Stage 2 solvent extraction electrowinning plant produced its first copper cathode in May last year, and by September had reached its nameplate production rate of 25 000 t/y.
