PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Tiger Resources has outperformed its 2013 production guidance by more than 4 000 t, with the miner on Tuesday reporting that it had produced 41 255 t of copper in concentrate at its Kipoi operation.
This was above the full-year guidance of between 41 000 t and 43 000 t which was set for the Stage 1 heavy media separation (HMS) plant, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“For the plant to achieve our updated production guidance of more than 41 000 t, exceeding our initial guidance by more than 4 000 t, is extremely satisfying and is testament to the commitment of our staff on the ground, as well as our management team,” said Tiger MD Brad Marwood.
“The HMS has been operating well above nameplate capacity for most of 2013,” he added.
For 2014, the HMS plant was expected to produce some 39 000 t of copper in concentrate, up 85% from the original guidance of 21 000 t.
In addition, Tiger’s Stage 2 solvent extraction electrowinning plant was also scheduled to start production of copper cathode by the second quarter of the year.
Some 25 000 t of copper cathode would be produced in the first 12 months of production, with production levelling out at 50 000 t/y thereafter.
