PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Contract miner Thiess has been awarded a four-year extension of its mining contract at the Ukhaa Khudag coal mine, in Mongolia.

The contract, awarded by project owner Energy Resources, was expected to deliver up to A$1-billion in revenue over the next seven years.

The contract extension supplemented the current eight-year agreement, signed in 2008, and resulted in Thiess continuing mining operations and maintenance delivery until 2022.

Thiess was responsible for mining services at the mine, including fleet operation and maintenance for overburden stripping, coal mining and blast drilling under an alliance structure, with the company also involved in mine planning and health, safety and environmental management.
