Gauteng Premier David Makhura is seen visiting the exhibition area of Electra Mining Africa 2016, the premier mining showcase that brings new products to market with resounding success. Electra Mining Africa, which is ranked among the world’s top three mining shows, takes place every two years in the province of Gauteng, which is Sotho for the “place of gold”. In his address at the show, Makhura outlined the importance of mining to the South African capital manufacturing sector and to the economic growth of Gauteng as a whole. “Mining continues to be a very critical player,” Makhura emphasised about the province in which mining has been taking place since George Harrison discovered gold in Langlaagte, Johannesburg, in July 1886.
