The Mineral Treasure Chest of Limpopo

28th October 2015

Company Announcement - The Limpopo Minerals Conference and Trade Show takes place in Mokopane from the 10 – 12 November at a critical juncture in the mining development of South Africa. Limpopo is a province of mineral opportunities, a treasure chest of more than 26 different minerals.

One of the richest diamond and copper/phosphate mines at Venetia and Palabora are located in Limpopo. The region boasts at least 10 large platinum mines, several chrome operations in addition to copper and industrial mineral mines (phosphate and andalusite). While the platinum, chrome, copper, coal and numerous other minerals have a long history in the province, the recognition of the roles of communities has been neglected. This has resulted in large areas of poverty adjacent to centres of mineral wealth. This conference will address this most urgent issue.

However existing pockets of excellence are found in the mineral mining areas of south eastern Limpopo. These examples will serve as models for the future growth of the province ensuring environmentally and socially sensitive developments that will optimally enhance the well-being, economic and social evolution of Limpopo Province.
