JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – ASX- and JSE-listed Tawana Resources expects to submit the scoping report and environmental- and social-impact assessment (ESIA) terms of reference document for its Mofe Creek iron-ore project to the Liberian Environmental Protection Agency by the end of May.

This followed the conclusion of the first phase of consultations with national and regional government authorities, nongovernmental organisations and community stakeholders as part of its ongoing ESIA studies, which started in July last year.

“The company, in conjunction with its environmental and social consulting partner Earth Systems and local partner [Liberia-based] Earth Environmental Consulting, have been working diligently to complete the scoping consultation meetings with community members within the project district over the past month,” Tawana said in an update to shareholders on Tuesday.

The meetings would form the basis of the scoping report and ESIA terms of reference document, both of which would complement the next phase of the ESIA process including detailed baseline air, noise and dust/weather studies.

“The culmination of these studies will assist in defining key technical and operational design criteria for the project’s prefeasibility study,” the company concluded.
