JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Operations relating to the reef horizon at JSE-listed Village Main Reef’s Tau Lekoa gold mine have been halted after a worker was killed in a electric shock incident on Thursday evening.

The gold miner indicated that the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) inspectorate in the Klerksdorp region had issued a Section 54 stoppage and that an initial investigation had been conducted at the mine, in Orkney, in the North West province.

Village indicated that its management team was working closely with the DMR to minimise the impact of the stoppage, while a full investigation was under way.

The company’s board and management expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased.
