JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) - Global potash development group Sirius Minerals has signed an agreement with mineral fertiliser trader Keytrade to market up to 1.75-million tons a year of polyhalite produced at Sirius’ UK-based York potash project, currently under development.

The project's initial production was currently scheduled for late 2016 with production to ramp up to five-million tons a year by 2018. Sirius would spend up to $1.7-billion on the project to reach first production.

Keytrade has been tasked to market the product in Central and South America, excluding Brazil; South East Asia; as well as specific countries in Europe and Africa.

“We believe there is big potential to market Polyhalite globally. The scale of the York potash project resource, coupled with polyhalite's unique multinutrient characteristics, matches the agricultural requirements of our world," Keytrade president and CEO Melih Keyman said.
