JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed mineral sands miner Sierra Rutile was assessing the extent to which a four-day lockdown, in response to the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, would impact on its operations.
Sierra Rutile, which operated a mine in south-west Sierra Leone, said it fully supported the lockdown initiative, set to take place from September 18 to 21, as part of the Sierra Leone government’s concerted response to the Ebola situation.
The company added that, once government had provided full details of the restrictions, it would advise on the contingency plans that would be implemented to mitigate, as best as possible, disruptions to Sierra Rutile’s operations.
The mineral sands miner further stated that, to date, there continued to be no reported or suspected cases of Ebola at its operations.
“The company continues to have in place the precautionary measures to minimise the risks posed to its employees, contractors and visitors,” it stressed.
