JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Sierra Rutile has appointed Matthew Hird to succeed Yves Ilunga as CFO in September.

Hird, a chartered accountant, was an experienced finance professional from the natural resources sector with a wealth of expertise in driving the strategic analysis, financing, reporting and governance of mining companies.

He previously worked as CFO at African Minerals, CFO at copper producer Kazakhmys and company secretary and group reporting manager at Vedanta Resources.

Prior to his work in the natural resources sector, Hird spent nine years at Deloitte.

He holds an MA in natural sciences from the University of Cambridge.

“Following a careful and rigorous search, we have arrived at an exceptional candidate and I'm very pleased to welcome Matthew to the team. Sierra Rutile has ambitious plans, both strategically and operationally and Matthew's experience and expertise are particularly well-suited to taking us from our current state of development to achieving those objectives.

“I would like to thank Yves for his significant contribution to Sierra Rutile.  During his tenure, he has overseen major improvements in our cost control and reporting and has been a valuable member of the senior management team. I wish Yves all the best for his future endeavours,” commented Sierra Rutile CEO John Sisay.
