JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Shareholders of gold miner Sibanye Gold have approved the acquisition of the North West-based Bathopele, Siphumelele and Thembelani mines from Anglo American Platinum (Amplats) subsidiary Rustenburg Platinum Mines.

The deal would see Sibanye acquiring the mining operations, two concentrating plants, an on-site chrome recovery plant, the Western Limb tailings retreatment plant, associated surface infrastructure and Rustenburg’s related assets and liabilities.

The transaction remained subject to approval by the South African competition authorities and the granting of consent for the sale of the mining right and the prospecting right by June 30, 2017.

Amplats welcomed the positive outcome of the Sibanye shareholder vote.
