PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed project house Sedgman has been awarded a A$59.8-million engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from aluminium major Alcoa at its Kwinana refinery, in Western Australia.

Sedgman’s scope of work would include the design, procurement, delivery, construction, integration and commissioning of the filtration plant and the associated process infrastructure.

When complete, the filtration plant was expected to produce lower moisture content bauxite residue from the refinery, permitting ongoing residue storage within the existing storage area, and deferring the need for Alcoa to construct new drying areas.

The detailed design of the project had started, and the project would likely be completed by April 2016.
