SCDHEC requested to review Haile operating permit

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – TSX-listed Romarco Minerals on Wednesday advised that the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) had received a request to review the mine operating permit issued for the company’s Haile gold mine, in Lancaster County.

The SCDHEC had issued Romarco with the permit earlier this month, enabling the company to break ground on the $353-million project.

The request for review had been filed by environmental organisation the Sierra Club citing the reclamation bonding as the area of concern.

“The company does not believe the request has technical merit and believes these concerns have been adequately addressed throughout the permitting process,” Romarco said in a statement.

The company added that, as a result of the request for review, it was continuing with its cash conservation actions.

Romarco’s cash balance at November 19, 2014, was about $18-million.
