PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper/gold miner Sandfire Resources has awarded a A$200-million underground mining contract at its DeGrussa operation, in Western Australia, to mining contractor Byrnecut Australia.

The new mining contract would run for a period of three years, and could be extended for a further two years at Sandfire’s discretion.

The contract was awarded following a competitive tender process ahead of expiry of the existing contract with Australian Contract Mining.

Sandfire said on Tuesday that the new DeGrussa underground mining contract would reduce gross mining costs by over 10%, which would result in a reduction in anticipated mining, decline development and underground sustaining capital.
