Replacement drag chain assemblies reduce downtime

REPLACEMENT CHAIN The en-masse drag chain conveyors are built for the demands of the mining and minerals processing industries

Replacement drag chain assemblies, provided by heavy-duty conveying systems manufacturer CDM Systems, for all types of en-masse and chain drag-type conveyors, are built to be robust, ensuring that mines limit maintenance downtime on conveyors, says company VP Andrew Parker.

CDM Systems, which has been manufacturing the heavy-duty engineered en-masse drag chain conveyors for more than 40 years, designs and builds the replacement chain to the specifications of the existing conveyor and the type of material being conveyed, he explains.

The chain and flight assembly is an exclusive CDM design for heavy-duty, durable conveyor chain and flights. “The design and manufacture of our chain and flights ensure durability and conveying reliability. The drop-forged, case-hardened chain is made from chromium alloy and reinforces the product with high-tensile strength. This means the chain will last a long time in a harsh environment that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” explains Parker.

CDM’s en-masse drag chain conveyor is suitable for several industries, including the minerals processing, power and utilities, ship and rail, and chemicals processing industries. “The en-masse operating principle is the most efficient method of moving bulk material, handling everything from fly and bottom ash, to limestone, silica and potash,” he says.

The company’s replacement drag chain assemblies are designed to ensure optimum material movement and carrying capacity. The assemblies come in easy-to-install sections that fit into the existing conveyor housing.

“We have replaced chains for a lot of companies as they experience high failure rates of their conveyors and, therefore, suffer from unexpected downtime and unplanned maintenance, which most utilities and manufacturers cannot afford. Our chain provides the performance they demand,” notes Parker.

CDM manufactures its en-masse drag chain conveyors and replacement chain assemblies at its factory in northern Minnesota, in the US. From this location, the chains are sent to clients situated in countries around the world.

Parker says the company uses its materials handling experience and industry knowledge to solve the most difficult bulk transportation challenges.

“Our conveying systems are specifically designed for reliable operation in aggressive and high-temperature applications. Whether our clients are offloading trucks, railcars or vessels, or moving commodities within a process facility, we provide the tech- nical support and the right equipment designed to meet client demand.”

CDM’s conveyors meet the high-volume characteristics required from en-masse conveying principles, making them the best choice for moving high-volume materials within a facility, says Parker.
