PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Regis Resources has awarded contractor Barminco the underground mining services contract at the Rosemont underground operation, in Western Australia.

“This is a major step in delivering the underground strategy that Regis has been pursuing at Duketon,’ said Regis MD Jim Beyer.

“We believe the development of the initial underground position at Rosemont provides an excellent platform to grow the operation through exploration from an established underground footprint.

“Rosemont is a key component of our existing strategy to increase annual production and mine life at Duketon. Our continuing progress with Rosemont underground gives further confidence of the broader opportunity to replicate this underground development path at Garden Well in the near term, and other Duketon satellite deposits in the future.”

The Rosemont underground operation is estimated to have a mineral resource of 1.4-million tonnes, grading 5.1 g/t gold for 230 000 oz of gold.

The Barminco contract will have an initial three year term, and the contract miner is expected to start mining by the end of the March quarter, with ore feed expected by the end of 2019.
