Rare Group

A distributor and service provider of piping and related products covering the entire fluid conveyance cycle, Rare Group was established in 1975 to supply carbon steel products to the petrochemicals industry.

Rare has since evolved into a complete pipeline solutions provider which holds ISO 9001:2008 accreditation and is a Level 4 broad-based black economic-empowerment company.

Rare’s geographical footprint includes its Kliprivier trading office and Meyerton-based high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe manufacturing facility, both in Gauteng, as well as its subsidiary in Zambia.

The group comprises two operating divisions Rare Trading and Rare Plastics, and Rare Construction Zambia.

Rare Plastics manufactures and distributes HDPE pipe and fittings from its factory in Meyerton, where pipes are manufactured in accordance with SANS ISO 4427 standards. Sizes range from 110 mm to 1 000 mm, with the PE100 raw material sourced from reputable manufacturers who comply with SANS ISO 4427 Part 1.

Rare Plastics, in conjunction with its technology partner Borealis, has produced a three-layer co-extruded water and sewer pipe specifically for alternative installation techniques, under the name Rare Plastics Co-extruded pipe. This polymer technology has high resistance to slow crack propagation and point loads, compared with standard PE100.

Stub and flanging of pipe is also offered as an additional service to customers.

Rare Trading sells a comprehensive range of products, combining steel pipes and fittings, offering complete pipeline solutions to the contractor or end-user, while Rare Construction Zambia is a fully integrated pipeline installation and pipelining solutions provider to the mining and industrial sectors.

Rare is a proud member of the Southern African Plastic Pipe Manufacturers Association and the Installation and Fabrication Plastics Pipe Association.
