JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Randgold Resources on Friday said its Tongon mine, in Côte d’Ivoire, would meet the revised production guidance for 2016 on the back of ongoing significant performance improvements.

Tongon is expected to hit the targeted output of 260 000 oz of gold for 2016, with expectations of 285 000 oz of production in 2017 and 290 000 oz thereafter each year for the next three years.

“The Tongon team had delivered on all the critical issues, stabilising the optimised crushing circuit, minimising the impact of grid power supply disruptions and implementing an effective preventative maintenance plan,” Randgold CEO Mark Bristow said on Friday.

The group now aims to extend the life of the mine through additional resource and reserve discoveries in the extensions to the current orebodies, the satellites around the mine and other targets within trucking distance.

Bristow also noted that progress was being made at the Mankono permit and the new targets defined within the Boundiali belt.
