PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Liquefied natural gas (LNG) major BG Group reported this week that the Queensland Curtis LNG (QCLNG) project was on track for shipment in December.

“The QCLNG project is on target to export its first LNG cargo by the end of the year, which will add volumes and flexibility to the company’s global LNG portfolio,” interim executive chairperson Andrew Gould said.

The project would deliver about 8.5-million tonnes a year of capacity, with the Phase 1 project budgeted at $20.4-billion.

As part of the commissioning process for the QCLNG project, BG Group was ramping up gas production, and during the third quarter ended September, production of around 34 000 bbl/d was 31% higher than the third quarter of 2013.

The increased production has had short-term implications for the domestic gas market, Gould said, with BG Group having several arrangements in place to manage ramp gas, including storage and commercial agreements to supply domestic customers.
