JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Canadian precious metals producer Primero Mining has suffered a fatal accident at its San Dimas gold/silver mine, in Mexico, last week.

The company reported on Friday that an employee of one of its contractors had died in an underground incident the previous day. Primero, which also owns the Cerro del Gallo development project in Mexico and mines in Canada, said the fatality was an isolated incident and that normal operations continued while authorities investigated the accident.

Primero is expanding the San Dimas gold/silver mine to raise mine output to between 210 000 oz and 220 000 oz of gold equivalent in 2016.

Primero also on Monday announced that it had appointed Wendy Kaufman as CFO, effective from September 29. Kaufman would replace David Blaiklock, who had decided not to relocate with the transfer of the company's finance team to Toronto.
