JSE-listed Merafe Resources’ attributable ferrochrome production from the Glencore Merafe Chrome Venture for the year ended December 31, 2019, was 9% lower year-on-year at 371 000 t.
The company’s production for the fourth quarter ended December 31, was also 6% lower year-on-year at 105 000 t.
Merafe attributes the lower production to increased electricity curtailments by State-owned power utility Eskom, community unrest and production cutbacks in response to market conditions during the fourth quarter.
