PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed nickel miner Poseidon Nickel is advancing work on its recently acquired Lake Johnston project, in Western Australia, announcing on Tuesday a re-estimated mineral resource for the Maggie Hays mine.

The Maggie Hays mine was now estimated to host an indicated and inferred mineral resource of 3.8-million tonnes, grading 1.41% nickel for 53 100 t of contained nickel.

Poseidon said the re-estimation of the Maggie Hays resource had been completed without additional drilling, using existing data handed over during the sales process.

The Maggie Hays mineral resource estimate brought Poseidon’s total nickel inventory to about 380 000 t of contained nickel metal.

Poseidon acquired the Lake Johnston project from Norilsk Nickel in a A$1-million deal in September this year, after purchasing the Black Swan nickel project from the same company for A$1.5-million in July. Both projects included mine and concentrator plant infrastructure, as well as proven resources.

The Lake Johnston project also includes the Emily Ann mine, where Poseidon would undertake a mineral resource estimate in early 2015.
